Motivational 5am Quotes For The Best Morning Start
Inspired by the expert Robin Sharma, from his book The 5 AM Club, here are 22 motivational 5 am quotes for the best morning start. If you get up between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. that’s fine too!
Is it a 5 am 6 am 7 am or an 8 am start to your day?

I have tried the 5 am start and even a 4 am start. Full disclosure: I managed the 4 am start for one week. Temporarily dazzled by a go-getting YouTube influencer, I ran with his 4 am morning start theory. Believe me, it nearly killed me, plus both my kids thought I was completely mad. By the end of the week, I almost was, due to the tiredness that hit me somewhere between 3 pm and 4 pm. Nope, there are better times for me to get up. The best time for me is usually between 6 am and 7 am.
Define your morning start priorities
To each their own. We all have different priorities. Some of us have babies, some have jobs to get to, some have the school run, and some work nights. Some of us are juggling all of it.
Stop with the guilt. The most crucial part for me is not the exact time I get up every morning; it’s the planning, the productivity, and the feeling after the first hours I will be ‘owning the day,’ not the day ‘owning me.’
When I feel like life is a mess, my morning routine reminds me that I don’t have to have a bad day.
There is a lot to be said for an early start and a great morning routine, it can make a good day turn into a great day, but I’ve learnt over time it needs to fit in with lifestyle, schedule and commitments.
Let’s get to the quotes and why they made my list.
Motivational 5 AM quotes to start your day
The First thing I do in the morning when I waken is say ‘Thank you Lord’
Maya Angelou
Morning Gratitude
Each morning, wake up grateful. In the early morning hours, before you even leave your bed, think about all the things you have in your life to be grateful for. Focus on a special memory that brings happiness.
I love living. I love that I’m alive to love my age. There are many people who went to bed just as I did yesterday evening and didn’t wake this morning. I love and feel very blessed that I did. I love, too, that I know a little more today than I did yesterday, or I simply know it more profoundly.
Maya Angelou
Morning Gratitude-2
Maya has the right words again, reminding us that being alive is a privilege. As each day passes and we get older, we can appreciate the gift that we are still here, and this in itself is a blessing.
An early morning walk is a blessing for the whole day.
David Thoreau
Physical Exercise

I use the morning to get in some physical exercise and try to do this for 20 minutes every single day. The days I don’t do it, my mindset is not in the same place. It’s usually the treadmill or a brisk walk, if the weather is good. A good walk frees the mind, and it has become part of my daily routine. Physical activity changes your disposition, not just physically but mentally.
You know that feeling when you wake up in the morning and you’re excited for the day? That’s one of my main goals in life.
Kirsten Dunst
The right mindset
Waking up early gives you the time to get your mindset right. Before you reach for social media, decide what attitude you will set for the day before anyone interrupts you. Once you have created the right mindset (thinking positively about the day ahead or recreating positive memories and pictures in your head, plus some physical activity), you know this will set the tone for the rest of your day. You are set up to win!
It is well to be up before daybreak, for such habits contribute to health, wealth, and wisdom.
Aristotle
A good habit- a great routine
Great leaders of the past and present know that good habits are created. They don’t just happen. As Aristotle says, creating good morning habits contributes to your health, wealth, and wisdom. An early start allows you to plan better, have a productive day, and create a great morning routine. For example, when you do some physical exercise, this, in turn, helps your state of mind and enables you to work better. What new habit can you implement in the morning to contribute to your best self?
Put your slippers way under your bed so when you get up in the morning, you have to get on your knees to find them. And while you’re down there, start your day with prayer. Ask for wisdom. Ask for understanding,” …Don’t aspire to make a living; aspire to make a difference.
Denzel Washington

Prayer
Mornings are the perfect opportunity to pray; To pray for wisdom and understanding, for your family, for friends, and for the day ahead.
Getting out of your comfort Zone
What I’ve learned from climbing mountains is that we can push ourselves far beyond what we think we are capable of, and it’s outside of our comfort zones that the most amazing things happen.
Bonita Norris

Getting out of your comfort Zone
Okay, so you might not be climbing Mount Everest, but just by consistently creating the discipline to get out of bed, it will feel like it. Overcoming the urge to stay under the covers creates small pockets of resilience. Conquer the lie-in, and what can you conquer next? At a basic level, you are practicing hard work, self-discipline, and taking yourself out of your comfort zone.
The passion for stretching yourself and sticking to it, even (or especially) when it’s not going well, is the hallmark of a growth mindset.
Carol Dweck- Psychologist
Have a growth mindset
As someone who has not always been a morning person, I know how much creating a good morning routine has helped me. I’ve experimented a lot with it and what does and doesn’t work for me. The experimentation alone in my morning routine has served my growth mindset. It has taught me what I can and can’t do in a fixed amount of time. More importantly, it has taught me my priorities in the morning.
Experiment with your morning routine
I’m continually tweaking and experimenting to get the best out of my morning and my ‘power hour’ within my morning routine. I know being honest that to have a great day I need to have a great morning. Or at least get the first hour right!

Using the morning to expand your mind with reading, writing, or listening to a great podcast feeds and expands your mind. There are different mindsets that people can choose and a negative one can impact your whole day.
Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth
Proverbs 10:4

Hard work
It’s hard work getting up early, creating a good routine, and sticking to it day after day, week after week. Intense effort is involved. Our human nature wants to be lazy, and don’t get me wrong, rest is good and needed. Rest works best when we know that we have worked hard to deserve it. The ability to work hard can be developed like a muscle, so train your muscles to the early morning rise.
There is never enough time to do everything, but there is always enough time to do the most important thing. It’s not a matter of time; it’s a matter of desire.
Nina Yau

Do the most important things – choose a high value activity
Well, I disagree a bit with Nina here. It IS a matter of time, especially if you have a full-time job because your time is being owned by another company most of the time.
BUT it’s still possible if you truly desire to create extra time. If you have time to watch an hour of TV every night, you have time. If you have time to hit the snooze button twice, you have time.
It’s what we choose to spend our time on, that’s the thing. Once you’ve decided what your most important thing is, or rather what your high-value activity is (or two or three things), you can start having absolute power over your time. Choose what is of value to you.
For me, my 3 high-value activities in the morning are 1. Prayer and reading the bible 2. Doing some physical exercise 3. Writing (usually journalling)
After lots of trial and error, I currently do 20 minutes on each in the morning. Better to do an intense 20 minutes every morning than nothing for three days. I know I have an hour each morning, and I want to get the most out of it. Some mornings I have more time but this is what I know I can commit to on a daily basis.
How much time do you have, and what can you do with it?
When you fall in love with the process rather than the product, you don’t have to wait to give yourself permission to be happy. You can be satisfied anytime your system is running. And a system can be successful in many different forms, not just the one you first envision.
James Clear- Atomic Habits

Fall in love with the process
Fall in love with taking some time for yourself and doing what matters to you. This is what my morning routine means to me: God’s time, exercise time, writing time. Fall in love with the process of finding what works for you.
Every morning, you have two choices: continue to sleep with your dreams or wake up and chase them.
Arnold Schwarzenegger

Make a choice
Every morning is the opportunity to get up and ask yourself; What is the one thing I can do today to get closer to my dream?
Wake up early and tackle the day before it tackles you.
Evan Carmichael
Getting up early allows you to control the day
It really can feel like this. Yet, if you wake up early, you can tackle the day and almost get ahead of it.
Know that wherever you are in your life right now is both temporary and exactly where you are supposed to be (otherwise, you would be somewhere else). Be at peace with where you are while taking your next step toward where you want to be.
Hal Elrod
Being Present, being in the moment
Before you rush into your day, be at peace and take the time to reflect.
Be grateful for what you have while you pursue your goal. If you aren’t grateful for what you already have, what makes you think you would be happy with more.
Roy T Bennett
Accepting where I am in life and enjoying the journey, being present with myself, is a better way.
When I’m tempted to skip my morning routine or another form of self-care, I remind myself that I can better serve the people I love and the projects I care about when I start with me.
Courtney Carver

Self care
It’s not just getting up early or creating a routine; it’s vital self-care. I need it. You need it. It’s time to invest in yourself.
At dawn, when you have trouble getting out of bed, tell yourself: “I have to go to work — as a human being. What do I have to complain of if I’m going to do what I was born for — the things I was brought into the world to do? Or is this what I was created for? To huddle under the blankets and stay warm?
Marcus Aurelius

Thinking time
Time to think, to ask yourself deep questions and go beyond a ‘to do’ list. To know that you have a purpose, a reason to get up.
Small disciplines repeated with consistency every day lead to great achievements gained slowly over time.
John C Maxwell
Devoted discipline
Let your small morning disciplines grow over time. Become a disciplined person. Become a better person. See small daily improvements and see how this impacts other areas of your life. Become devoted to discipline.
Productivity
Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent, and focused effort.”
Paul J Meyer
Getting up early creates conscious productivity. It’s a decision.

Time is not refundable; use it with intention.
