My own mum is no longer with me and Mother’s Day has turned into a day when I am spoilt by my own children with Mother’s Day gifts, and also a day where I remember and give thanks to my mum. Often it’s the little moments that I remember, how she washed my hair as a child, on my return from hospital how she bought a swing for the garden. Her love of books – and how she encouraged me in everything I did. It’s good to remember the little things.
The Influence of a Christian Mother
I am so grateful that I grew up under the influence of a Christian mum. She was a Godly mother that was open about her faith and often prayed out loud- sometimes in frustration with life’s ups and downs. She introduced me to Jesus and church and showed me through example how to have a real relationship with him.

A mother’s love is a reflection of the love of God. Through ups and downs, unconditional, unwavering, forgiving and eternal.
Mary-Mother to Jesus in the Bible
There are many mothers in the Bible, each of them showing their faith in God in various ways but the most prominent mother is the one to Jesus- Mary. Through Mary, we see her whole journey as a mother. From the angel’s announcement that she has been chosen to be the Lord’s mother and her beautiful response in The Magnificat. Her pregnancy journey and birth, and the small but meaningful glimpses throughout Jesus’s ministry of her presence in his life. Even in Jesus’s death, she is there – a witness, a follower but most of all simply a loving mother to a son. She was there, she stood by him.
When we need more strength as mum’s we can look to Mary’s example.
The Value of a Mother
In Proverbs 31: 26-29 we learn about the value and wisdom of a mother;
Proverbs 31: 26-29
When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness. She carefully watches everything in her household and suffers nothing from laziness. Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her: “There are many virtuous and capable women in the world but your surpass them all!”
So this Mother’s Day, give her the best messages of love, bless her, and celebrate her strength and wisdom and love.
