Slow down and reconnect for Advent
This Women’s 31 Day Advent Bible Reading Plan is designed to help you slow down during a busy season, reconnect with the heart of God, and prepare your spirit for the Christmas Season.
Whether you are reading in your quiet time, with a women’s group, having some family Bible time, or journalling through Advent, these Scriptures and reflections will guide you deeper into the story of God’s love.
Breathe and Pause
Don’t let the stress and busyness take over this Christmas. Use Advent to slow everything down, breathe and pause.
Advent is a beautiful season of waiting, a time of year when women of faith can pause to remember the promise, preparation, and hope ushered in by Jesus’ birth.
Mary and Elizabeth in the story of Advent
For generations, women have carried stories of expectancy, faith, and obedience.
And in Scripture, two women stand at the heart of the Advent story; Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist.
Their stories remind us that God sees us, God chooses us, and God works through ordinary women willing to say yes.
Below, you will find 31 Scripture readings, perfect for each day of a special Season. Many of these verses deliberately focus on Mary and Elizabeth, but all point to the hope fulfilled through Jesus.
A simple plan to gently lead you into a month of reflection, peace, joy, and renewed faith.

Why a Women’s Advent Bible Reading Plan?
Women play a vital role in the unfolding story of redemption. From Eve to Esther to Ruth to the women at the tomb, and to Mary Magdalene who first sees the risen Jesus; Scripture is filled with moments when God invites women to step into His purposes.
Jesus is undoubtedly the central role in the Christmas story but both Mary and Elizabeth hold a special place in the Advent narrative.
Mary was young, faithful, obedient, and brave. Elizabeth was older, seasoned in faith, and familiar with waiting. Together, they reveal that God moves across generations and circumstances. Their shared story teaches us:
- God has a perfect timeline
- God honors faith no matter your age or season of life
- God brings community into moments of calling
- God births miracles through ordinary women
This Advent, find yourself in the story of the birth of Jesus, and in Mary and Elizabeth’s story…

Reflections on Mary: A Woman of Faith and Surrender
Mary’s journey is one of the most powerful faith stories in the Bible. She was not chosen because she was perfect, wealthy, or influential.
She was chosen because she was willing. Her life teaches women today how to lean into God’s calling with trust, even when the path is unfamiliar and difficult.
Mary reminds us to:
- Welcome God’s interruptions
- Believe His word over our fears
- Move with faith even when we don’t have all the answers
- Praise God in every circumstance
Her story is not simply a historical moment – it’s an invitation for every woman today to live with courageous obedience.
Reflections on Elizabeth – A Woman of Wisdom and Encouragement
Elizabeth’s story reflects years of faithfulness in waiting. She carried both longing and hope. God chose her to be the mother of John the Baptist – the one who would prepare the way for Jesus, the promised messiah.
Elizabeth teaches us:
- God never forgets your prayers
- Waiting seasons are not wasted seasons
- Encouragement is a prophetic gift
- God uses women in every age and stage of life
Her blessing over Mary shows the power of women supporting women. Advent reminds us that community strengthens our calling.
